A major transformation at George Mason’s Fairfax campus is taking place. The culture of the institution is changing dramatically with the construction of over $100 million in new facilities that include research buildings, a hotel/conference center, retail outlets, and faculty/staff housing. At the forefront of these additions is a significant increase in the number of residential facilities for students. By 2012, the number of beds at Mason will increase from 4,420 to 9,500, accommodating nearly 30 per cent of the university’s projected student population. This total will elevate Mason to the top 20 institutions in the U.S. that have the most students living on campus, according to the Association of College and University Housing Officers.
